Can Chiropractic Help Treat Migraine Headaches?

Another blog post by Ann Arbor chiropractor, Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.: Can Chiropractic Help Treat Migraine Headaches?

Migraine headaches occur in people more often than you might think. According to the Migraine Research Foundation, migraines are the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world, affecting 39 million people in the U.S. and 1 billion worldwide. Over 75% of migraine sufferers experience musculoskeletal issues that include neck muscle tension and problems with jaw function. In the approximately 20 years that I have treated patients experiencing migraines at my Ann Arbor chiropractic office, I have not seen a migraine sufferer who does not have either neck muscle tension, or  jaw function problems, or both — along with misalignment of the neck vertebrae. Usually neck bone misalignment occurs first, which can cause migraines, neck muscle tension, and problems with jaw function. And because chiropractic treats (among other things) neck misalignment, chiropractic treatment can help alleviate migraine headaches (and jaw dysfunction and neck tension).

At our Ann Arbor chiropractic office, we treat migraine headaches by performing a thorough exam, looking for any bone misalignment, and working to understand any environmental issues that might help trigger the migraine headaches. We then proceed to treat the affected portion of the spinal vertebrae for bone misalignment in order to promote better nerve and sensory function that may be the cause of the migraine headache(s).

Chiropractic treatments can effectively treat migraine headaches, as I've seen over the last 20 years at my Ann Arbor chiropractic office. If you have any questions about how we can help you alleviate your migraine headaches, or about this blog post, back pain, or neck pain I can be reached at my Ann Arbor chiropractic office at [email protected].
