Philosophy of Chiropracitc

From the desk of Ann Arbor Chiropractor, Michael Tannenbaum, D.C.

Early in the 20th century BJ Palmer, the son of the founder of chiropractic and the person who really pushed chiropractic into public notice, came up with 33 principles of chiropractic. These principles are the philosophical bedrock of chiropractic. Over the next few weeks I would like to discuss some of these principles to give the reader an idea of the philosophical aspects of chiropractic.

Principle 1

A Universal Intelligence is in all matter, and continually

gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in

existence.

This principle suggests that all matter is a form of intelligence. That is, all matter is made of atoms and as it is known atoms have a certain structure and organization. Organization, it can be said requires intelligence. It requires intelligence within the atom to from/organize the atoms structure and to make the atom fit into the larger matter that the atom is apart of. This intelligence, chiropractors call “innate” intelligence. I will talk more about “innate” intelligence in later blogs. But the bottom line is that all matter must have some sort of intelligence because matter is organized . This of course includes humans and the very specific atoms/matter that make up a human body. Humans are made up of a very complex web of matter that fits together in such a way to make us human. The intelligence that makes us human is very involved and complex in it's ability to organize/make the body and keep it healthy. Also, if this intelligence is interfered with it causes the body ill health. In addition here, this idea of all matter having intelligence can be extrapolated to look at intelligence as actual physical energy and thus all is created by energy. This is a very important idea in chiropractic and we will talk about this in later blog posts.
