Sitting Can Be Bad For Your Health

~~From the desk of Ann Arbor Chiropractor, Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.
Studies suggest that long hours of sitting increases the likelihood of early death, contracting type II diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular disease. The health risks that come with sitting too much are still present even if you exercise the daily recommended amount.  Regular exercise does reduce your risk of poor health, but even if you regularly exercise too much sitting significantly increases your chances of poor health. To top this off,  it has been found that the average American sits for about half of their waking life therefore putting most Americans in the category of sitting so much that there health is at risk.

Here are some things you can do to reduce the amount of time sitting and reduce the health risks associated with sitting.

-Make an attempt to sit less. Keep an eye on time spent sitting and find ways to reduce it.

-If watching TV, reading a book, etc., try to spend some of the time doing these things standing.

-While at work get up from sitting every 30 minutes and walk around for a minute or two  and stretch if possible.

 -Get regular exercise.

 -Have a healthful diet.
