Iliotibial Band Pain

~~I often get questions from patients who are runners, bicyclists or other athletes about pain that runs from their hip socket or slightly above and travels down the lateral aspect of the leg to the lateral side of their knee. I let the patients know that the pain usually stems from the connective tissue that starts on the lateral aspect of your pelvis called the ilium bone and runs all the way down to a bone in the lower leg called the tibia bone. This connective tissue is called the iliotibial band (IT band).  Misalignment of your pelvis, poor tracking of your knee joint or other misalignment in the joints that have some connection to the IT bone causes the IT band to flare up. This can result in so much pain that athletic activity can be almost impossible. Going to a chiropractor to get the appropriate bones realigned and combined soft tissue therapies can help you get rid of the IT band pain.
