The Nerve System

From the desk of Ann Arbor Chiropractor, Dr. Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

Today I would like to give you a basic understanding of the nerve system, the communication system within the body. The nerve system can be looked at as the bodies electrical wiring system. It is an extremely densely packed series of nerves (wires) in the body like a wiring harness. The nerves are highly complex and integrated. The nerves are so densely packed in your body that if you were to remove all the bones, organs and skin of your body, but not the nerves, you would still clearly make out the shape of your body.

The nerve system begins at the base of the brain as the spinal chord and leaves the spinal column entering the rest of the body via nerves roots (appendages emanating from the spinal chord) which once beyond the spinal column branch out as millions and millions of nerves throughout your body. These nerves are carrying information form the brain to the body and from the body to the brain so the brain can coordinate and control the function of the body. The nerves actually innervate all the tissue cells of the body. By the way, if you were to touch a nerve it's consistency would be like that of cooked spaghetti.

Chiropractors works to make sure the information from the brain gets to the rest of the body as it should and the information from the body get to the brain as it should. Chiropractors do this by reducing nerve interference in the body. Reducing nerve interference not only helps you get rid of and prevent neck pain, back pain, headaches, tingling and numbness in the arms and legs and other nerve related problems, but it makes you healthier allowing your body to function closer to 100% capacity.
