Whiplash

~~From the desk of Ann Arbor Chiropractor Dr. Michael Tannenbaum, D.C.
Whiplash is caused by rapid/jolting forward and or backward movement of the head. Whiplash is sometimes seen for example in rear or front end car accidents or when football players are tackled or run into when they are not expecting it.
Some symptoms of  whiplash are as follows:
 Pain radiating into the arm(s)
Neck pain (the pain might not be noticed for a day or two after the incident that caused the  whiplash)
Neck stiffness (like neck pain, stiffness might not  notice right away)
 Headaches
Weakness in arms, sense of weakness in neck upper back area
Feeling tired and/or off kilter physically and or mentally

Typically when I look at neck x-rays of a whiplash victim the neck bones normal forward curved structure that is made up by the bones of  the neck has straightened or reversed. This should be addressed to prevent long-term neck and upper back problems and it's best to get treatment sooner rather then later as the degenerative affect of whiplash begins very soon after the accident that caused the whiplash. Also, the health consequences of whiplash can have short and long-term negative consequences to your overall health.
Chiropractors are trained to recognize and treat whiplash symptoms. So, if you have been involved in a whiplash accident go with out delay to a chiropractor for treatment.
