Ways To Reduce Food Consumption At Holiday Parties

~~This blog post comes from Ann Arbor chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

Yes, we're at the cusp of holiday time. With this comes eating all kinds of yummy food.  Of course, this may mean eating food that's not good for us. However, if you choose to do so you can have yummy and healthful food during the holidays or at least minimize bad food consumption.

As a chiropractor I feel it is my job to talk to my patients about eating healthful food and at my Ann Arbor chiropractic office, I ratchet this talk up around the holidays. Plus, around the holidays, at my Ann Arbor chiropractic office, we speak more specifically about avoiding poor food choices and overeating during holiday parties. Below are some tips I present to my patients to promote healthful food choices at holiday parties or at  least minimize unhealthful food consumption at these parties.

-Bring a healthful dish. Offer to bring food that you know is healthful, such as, a fruit salad, a hearty    green salad with healthful nuts in it, hummus or a vegetables tray.

-Eat before you go to the party so that you don't eat as much or at all at the party.

-Drink a lot of water to help repress your appetite.

-Eat less at the party. Fill your plate once and don't return for seconds. Avoid conversation around the        food table.

-Hold a drink in one hand. This will make it harder to handle food and thus hopefully you'll eat less.

-Wear clothes that are snug. Here you'll likely be to busy to holding your stomach in to over eat.
-Be picky about what you eat. If you don't like the food don't eat it.

-Take the focus off food. Try to engage in conversation and other activities that will make less likely that you will eat.

-Skip the appetizers.

-Minimize alcohol intake.

I hope these tips help you avoid overeating and/or making bad food choices at the holiday parties. I know that at our Ann Arbor office for at least for the next few months we will focus on talking about the best ways to avoid overeating and how to make good food choices at holiday parties.
