Chiropractors Reccomendation For A Heart-Healthy Holiday Season

~~From the office of Ann Arbor Chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

The holiday season is here and thus many people are going to eat less healthful food and participate in less healthful activities then normal. For this reason, for many the holiday season has an adverse effect on the health of their heart. With this in mind, I want to list some things we at our Ann Arbor Chiropractic office suggest that people eat and do to promote a healthy heart. I'm not trying to squash your holiday fun, I'm just trying to be helpful. So here we go.

 1)  Make sure to consume foods high in omega 3's. Foods such as as salmon, sardines. flax seed,  olive oil, avocado, walnuts, spinach and edamame.
2) Antioxidants should be consumed, but not in the supplement form as studies have shown that the supplement form have no benefits. There are many foods out there that are good source of antioxidants. Some food high in antioxidant that we recommend at our Ann Arbor chiropractic office are tomatoes, blueberries, kale, spinach, tea, and dark chocolate.
3) Consume foods high in fiber content. Fiber can be found in many foods. Just make sure the food is a healthful food to consume. Some healthful foods with high fiber content are bran, cauliflower, broccoli, raspberries, leafy greens, and celery.
4) Make sure to think before you eat. Look at what your eating and only eat what you know is healthful for you and don't over eat.
5) Try  to take a break from the holiday partying and get some exercise. Even a brisk daily 30 minute walk will help keep your heart healthy.

As a chiropractor I recommend healthful food choices, regular chiropractic care and regular exercise to keep your heart healthy. Doing these things can be difficult this time of year but, I believe if you set your mind to it you can have  a heart-healthy holiday season.
