Sitting Too Much

~~From the desk of Ann Arbor Chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.
At Tannenbaum Chiropractic in Ann Arbor and with chiropractors world wide it is known that sitting too much is bad for you. In addition, a great body of research has shown that sitting too much at work increases your risk for a variety of health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, back pain and neck pain and other joint and nerve related problems, cancer and early death. On average the American worker sits for 10 hours a day. This includes time at work and at home. So, how much time should you actually stand while at work? Research says that at work you should stand at least two hours a day and ideally four hours a day. Here are some tips we recommend at Tannenbaum Chiropractic in Ann Arbor to get you standing more while at work.
Use the stairs instead of elevators.
Walk to a co-workers desk instead of emailing them.
Set an alarm for a certain time of day while at work that gets up and walking.
Stand while talking on the phone.
Hold meetings where you stand during the meetings.
So, the take home message here is that you should stand more as your health depends on it and that your work place is a great place to begin the effort to stand more.
