How Many Visits To the Chiropractor To Get Better?

From the desk of Ann Arbor chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

A common question I get from patients at my chiropractic practice in Ann Arbor is, “how long do I have to go to the chiropractor to get better?” My answer is it depends on what you mean by “get better”. If getting better is to rid yourself of your neck or back pain then it probably will take considerably less time then if getting better means making your spine as healthy as it can be so that your not only out of pain but your spine, nerve health and overall health are closer to 100% of their potential. Along with this, everyone responds differently to chiropractic; some achieve their goals faster then others. More specifically, if your goal is to get rid of the pain two to eight treatments should suffice but, if your goal is to get closer to 100% spinal and nerve health it could take upwards of 24 or more visits. When I say 100% spinal and nerve health I mean getting rid of any chronic stiffness, pain, tingling and numbness, poor body mechanics and poor posture (all of which if not treated will get worse over time causing re-occurring acute pain and or chronic pain and overall ill health).

Furthermore, I would recommend to patients that they receive chiropractic care to the point where they are out of pain; I call this type of care“initial care”. Next, the patient should set a care schedule, which I call “reconstructive care” with their chiropractor to work toward making sure their spinal health, spinal alignment and nerve system are as close to 100% as possible. After “reconstructive care” the patient should be treated occasionally, but on a regularly scheduled basis, with what I call “wellness care” to maintain the health they have achieved through “initial care” and “reconstructive care”.

If in anyone has questions about care/number of visits regiment a my Ann Arbor chiropractic office or at any other chiropractic office or questions about chiropractic in general or about back pain, neck pain or headaches, I can be reached at [email protected].
