Eating Less During the Holidays

Another blog post from Ann Arbor based chiropractor, Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

Holidays are just around the corner. That means cooking food, eating food and eating more of it. Well, maybe. Here are some healthful tips from our Ann Arbor chiropractic office to make it through the holidays while maintaining a healthful level of food consumption.

-Select small-sized plates when choosing the size of the plate to eat from. A smaller plate will help you serve yourself a smaller portion of food than a larger plate.

-When cooking, snack smart. Have cut-up vegetables handy to snack on instead of snacking on unhealthful and high-calorie foods.

-Make sure that when you go to holiday parties, you're not going in starving. You can be hungry, but not starving. If starving, you'll more likely overeat.

-When cooking, don't taste-test too often. You may even want to keep a record of how often you are taste-testing.

-Reduce the amount of alcohol you are drinking. One possible way to accomplish this is for each alcoholic drink you consume, you drink a glass of water.

-Be choosy when selecting the food you eat. You don't need to try some of everything. Instead, choose the healthier and lower-calorie foods.

-Simply, when at a party stay a good distance away from where the food is placed.

-Find distractions from eating, like conversing with other party-goers.

-If you have neck pain, back pain, headaches or other nerve-related pain, go to a chiropractor to get rid of the pain. Those in pain are more likely to eat as a way to distract themselves from the pain.
