Is Chiropractic An Overall Body Health Modality?

Another blog post from Ann Arbor Chiropractor, Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

How does chiropractic prevent illness. The answer to this can be very complicated and nuanced and this blog post is not intended to explain chiropractic in that sort of detail. The basic idea, however, is that the brain runs and controls the function of all the tissues, organs and systems of the body. The nerve system takes the information from the brain to the body and back to the brain again in the form of nerve impulses. Chiropractic works to make sure these impulses get to the body and back to the brain with out interference thus allowing the body to function at an optimal level and in turn help prevent illness.

Studies have shown how chiropractic helps increase immune system competency. For example, one study has shown that the immune system and the nerve system are directly linked with the adrenal glands (which play a large part in immune system competency). Also, the Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases state that the brain is likely to send messages directly to the immune system via nerve cells.

For many, chiropractic is used as a tool to prevent or get rid of back pain, neck pain and headaches, but people should be using chiropractic as full body health maintenance and/or improvement modality. As mentioned earlier, studies (more of which are happening all the time) are demonstrating the connection between chiropractic treatment, the nerve system and with the prevention of illness. By the way, the founders of chiropractic didn't see chiropractic as a tool to get rid of back pain, neck pain and headaches, but rather as a tool to fix problems with the tissues, organs and systems of the body.
