Can Chiropractic Help With Range of Motion?

Blog post #275 from Ann Arbor, Michigan, chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum, D.C., of Tannenbaum Chiropractic, LLC: Can Chiropractic Help Improve a Person’s Range of Motion?

Patients at my Ann Arbor chiropractic office often ask, “Can chiropractic help improve a person’s range of motion?” and here is what I say: “Yes, chiropractic can help improve a person’s range of motion.”

Some of the big goals of most chiropractors are to improve their patient’s health, reduce the patient’s pain, and to improve the range of motion of the joints of the patient’s spine, pelvis, and extremities (arms/hands and legs/feet). Improving range of motion helps improve communication of nerve signals between the brain and the body and thus helps reduce pain and loosen muscles, just to name a few of the health benefits of improved range of motion.

Chiropractors often use manual “hands-on” techniques to treat people. These types of chiropractic treatments work to properly position those joints of the body’s musculoskeletal system which had not been aligned properly, which in turn helps the joints move more freely, improving the joints’ range of motion.

Usually, improved range of motion is noticeable after a few chiropractic treatments. In addition to performing chiropractic adjustments to improve your range of motion, your chiropractor may take x-rays of your spine, pelvis, or extremities to better understand your joint alignment and recommend certain stretches to perform at home, at work, or at the gym.
