Pregnancy and Chiropractic

Ann Arbor chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum, D.C., presents another blog: Pregnancy and Chiropractic

Chiropractic should be a part of your pregnancy care. It is well known that prenatal visits to your provider, good nutrition, and exercise are vital to a healthy pregnancy. What is not as well known is that chiropractic care can be very helpful in promoting a healthful pregnancy, and in reducing the chance of pregnancy-related complications and birth complications.

During pregnancy, the body goes through a number of physiological changes. As pregnancy progresses, the forward curve in the low back increases, the abdomen gets bigger, the pelvis changes to accommodate the developing pregnancy, ligaments throughout the body become more relaxed, and a myriad of hormonal changes occur to bring this all about. Although these changes are a normal part of pregnancy, sometimes these changes cause aches and pains or other – possibly more serious – pregnancy-related problems.

Some of the benefits of receiving chiropractic care in pregnancy, which we share with our patients at our Ann Arbor chiropractic office, are:

  • Reduced incidence of nausea.

  • Less (or no) pregnancy low back pain, neck pain, and other joint pain.

  • Reduced chance of musculoskeletal birth process complications.

  • Decreased chance of having a cesarean birth.

  • Milder (or no) pregnancy-related headaches.
