Ann Arbor Chiropractor's Take On Eating Clean

From the office of  Ann Arbor  chiropractor Mike Tannenbaum D.C.: Eating Clean

We hear it‘s more healthful to “eat clean.” Well, what does eat clean (or clean eating) mean? There are a number of definitions of eat clean and some can be quite different, but this is what we tell our patients at our Ann Arbor chiropractic office.

Clean eating is a type of eating that can include a lot of foods. It has some specific food types/categories and principles to follow, which I have listed below.

Focus on unprocessed and unrefined foods. Avoid foods that have chemicals/preservatives in them and foods that have lots of ingredients.

Remember healthful/nutritious and well-balanced food. You should eat plenty of vegetables and protein, and fewer carbohydrates and fats. Healthful carbohydrates and fats are an important part of clean eating – just don‘t overindulge.

The majority of food you eat should be plant-based. Not just veggies – though you should have a lot of these – but beans and whole grains, as well.

Try to eat smaller meals throughout the day: five small meals evenly spread out throughout the day, instead of three big meals.

Avoid too much alcohol, and don’t smoke cigarettes or use tobacco in any form.

Clean eating can be looked at as a type of diet, and even as a way of living. The bottom line is that eating clean is chock full of healthful, unprocessed, “no chemical foods” that will help you live a more healthful life – and likely a more productive and happier life.
